New playing fields have been officially opened at Aquinas Diocesan Grammar School in south Belfast. Aquinas received funding of £560,000 from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure for the project, which involved the upgrading of the existing grass pitch and associated multi-use games areas at the rear of the school which borders Ulster Rugby’s Kingspan ground.
Sports Minister Caral Ni Chuilin said the new playing fields – built in conjunction with Ulster Rugby and Belfast City Council – will benefit the wider community. Speaking at the official opening, she said: “The transformation has been incredible and we now have fantastic facilities available not only to pupils of Aquinas Grammar School and Ulster Rugby but also the wider community.“I am pleased that my Department’s contribution of £560,000, together with Belfast City’s Council’s contribution, has produced such a worthwhile outcome.
